KNITTED WOOLLEN FABRIC
UNDERSTANDING WOOL…

Washing with water is possible for this knitted wool fabric — but only under certain conditions!
Because wool is a natural, living fibre, made up of tiny scales that open and close in response to temperature and humidity, special care is required when washing.

When exposed to hot water, the scales open up; if they are rubbed together, they interlock and become matted, creating an irreversible, tangled mass.
This is known as felting.

…TO APPLY THE RIGHT CARE ROUTINE

MACHINE WASHING

  1. Turn the garment inside out and make sure all zips are closed. Wash the garment on its own to avoid friction.

  2. Select a delicate cycle at 20° to 30°C maximum.

  3. Spin at the lowest possible speed.

  4. Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight.

HAND WASHING

  1. Soak your knitted garment for 15 to 30 minutes in a large amount of lukewarm water (maximum 30°C) with a detergent specially formulated for wool.

  2. Gently press and massage the garment without rubbing.

  3. Rinse in water at the same temperature as the wash water.

  4. For hand spinning: do not wring the garment. Instead, lay it flat between two towels and press gently to remove excess water. Then lay it flat to dry, away from any heat source.
For machine spinning: turn the garment inside out and select a spin-only cycle without adding water, at the lowest speed.

  5. Always dry flat, out of direct sunlight.

SOLUTIONS AGAINST MOTHS

If you wear your woollen garment regularly, you needn’t worry — moths dislike being disturbed and will not settle there.

As a precaution, when storing your garment for a longer period:

  • Place the item in an airtight bag.

  • Add natural moth repellents such as true lavender, rosemary camphor, or Atlas cedarwood.

NEEM OIL

Extracted from the seeds of the neem tree, this oil is well-known for its moth-repelling properties.
How to make your own neem oil spray:
Dilute 5 to 10 ml of pure neem oil in 90 ml of water. Spray inside wardrobes and cupboards, then wipe dry with a cloth.
